Interestingly, many fans of The Originals still don't know that Riley Voelkel originally auditioned to play the youngest Mikaelson sister, Rebekah. Although she lost the role to Claire Holt, the show's producers were so impressed with Voelkel's audition that they created the character of Freya specifically for her — and boy, did she deliver!
Aside from being known as the firstborn Mikaelson, Freya is renowned for her immense magical abilities and is considered one of the most powerful witches in The Vampire Diaries universe. Her powers include telekinesis, pyrokinesis, healing, astral projection, and divination. She is also skilled in magical runes and can use them to cast powerful spells.
Freya's backstory is quite tragic, as she was taken from her family as a child and raised by her Aunt Dahlia, who subjected her to years of harsh training and emotional abuse. Despite this, Freya remains fiercely loyal to her siblings and will do anything to protect them. Besides her actions, what makes Freya remarkable is her famous lines. Whether she is being sassy, sarcastic, wholesome, or vicious with her threats, here are 20 quotes that made us love Freya Mikaelson and proved she was the best Mikaelson sibling in the end.
20 “Tell my brothers I'm coming home soon, and they better be on their best behavior.”
After scenes of speculation, this is the first time Freya Mikaelson properly introduces herself as the long-lost sister Rebekah never knew she had. After she aids Rebekah’s escape from the fallen cottage Kol trapped her witch body in, Freya is quick to discern the nature of mischief her younger brothers could be pulling in the outside world, leading her to tell Rebekah to send a message. Like Santa, their big sister is coming to town.

19 "I was five, and she was the devil."
Freya's tragic backstory cannot be overemphasized. Being sold as part of a sinister deal is a rough way to start a life. However, unlike Hope, whom Dahlia sought to abduct as an infant, Freya was not so lucky. Freya's time with Dahlia caused a great deal of emotional and physical trauma she endured and eventually escaped. Fortunately, she came face to face with her mother and confronted Esther for her terrible mistake of letting her evil Aunt Dahlia take her away at such a young age. Despite not yet winning our full trust, it was impossible not to empathize with Freya in this heartfelt dialogue with Esther.
18 "Do you talk to our other sister like this? Don't think so."
Klaus is known to be arrogant in his speech. This is an infamous trait his siblings have grown accustomed to. However, Freya will not sit by and watch her baby brother disrespect her. Nor fail to call out the impartiality and favoritism Klaus shows Rebekah despite them all being of the same blood. Although this exchange is brief and seems irrelevant upon the first watch, it speaks volumes as it calls out the perceived hypocrisy of "Always and Forever" involving only Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah, while excluding Finn and Kol.
17 "Family defines you, even if it does demand sacrifice."
Freya is swift to settle into the Mikaelson family dynamic. She proves this when she begins to exhibit her inner Mikaelson brute, channel her ruthlessness, and demonstrate lengths she would go to in order to let her family down.
16 "I work better with quiet."
Just like her siblings, Freya Mikaelson’s sarcasm reaches beyond the roof. And this is seen countless times just in this scenario when she snaps Lucien's neck to Stefan's admiration after he keeps blabbing his mouth without control. If there was any obvious pet peeve of Freya, it is disturbance when casting an important spell.
15 "I live here."
Just like the audience, it takes a while to fully adjust to the reality of a new Mikaelson sibling on our screens, but for Klaus, the struggle to accept a new sibling in his home is highly intimidating, and he makes no effort to hide it. After Dahlia is defeated and the day is saved, Klaus expects Freya to pack her bags and leave, but when he walks into a room and finds her meditating, he impatiently asks, "What are you doing?" An unbothered Freya gives the obvious answer in such a witty and mature manner.
14 "Enough! For an upgraded model, you're not very sharp."
From her first appearances in The Originals Season 2, Freya Mikaelson is never intimidated by Klaus despite his multiple attempts to sideline her. Because she comes in peace to seek the help of her siblings to liberate herself from Dahlia and join in the fight to save Hope, Freya intentionally makes herself look less powerful than she actually is until she can't stand Klaus' arrogance anymore and humbles him with a twist of her fingers in the presence of Esther and Elijah.
13 "Be careful, I have only so much patience."
Because Freya Mikaelson is always on the clock, trying to vanquish one evil or another, time is of the essence. And with a limited amount of time to listen or act, it influences her tendencies to be brash and rational, yet, at the same time, very logical in uncomfortable situations. In addition to this, with this line, Freya displays her maturity once again to Klaus when he tries to intimidate her.
12 "Just snap his neck. We’ll be done by the time he wakes."
In The Originals season 4, episode 2, when Kol, Hayley, and Elijah plot with Josh to rescue Klaus from Marcel's dungeon after five years of their separation, when Kol raises the concern of Josh ratting their plans out to his boss, Marcel, Freya Mikaelson gives a very direct suggestion that's effective but far from compassionate. Once again, proving when she is on the clock, she has no time for small talk. Not especially when her siblings' existence are on the line.
11 "Elijah remains bitter, Klaus remains obstinate — thus tequila!"
Even though Freya is hell-bent on seeing her younger siblings get along, there are moments when she can't help but let them sort their issues out on their own. After Klaus triggers the crescent wolf curse on Hayley and compels Gia to take off her daylight ring, thus putting him at odds with Elijah, Freya is comfortable sitting this one out and letting them figure it out on their own while having the time of her life, and celebrating her newfound freedom from Dahlia with a bottle of New Orleans tequila.
10 "I'm up against centuries of dead witches, who apparently are now strong enough to reach beyond the grave and shake up this entire city on its foundation. I'll rest when I send them all running back to hell."
One thing about Freya Mikaeloson, she always succeeds in rising to the occasion. And would not stop until she sends her enemies back to hell. This she makes very clear to an impressed Elijah cozying up to his elder sister.

9 "Maybe I can't kill you, but I can make you wish you were dead."
Lucien Castle was quite the formidable villain in The Originals Season 3. It took great effort and sacrifice to eradicate "the upgrade" eventually. But before Lucien meets his end from a broken glass wielded by Klaus, Freya makes quite the fun to watch him suffer for his main role in Finn’s death.
8 "I have hobbies. For example, I collect the ashes of my enemies."
Freya Mikaelson’s confidence does not just originate from having five younger siblings with extreme supernatural strengths or being the original witch of the Mikaelson family. As this line proves, it comes from a history of successive victories against her enemies, who have risen against her and her family. Although metaphorically speaking, this line also deviates from a conversation Freya’s love interest Keelin is trying to initiate when she asks if Freya has any hobbies. She uses this medium to remind Keelin and the audience her sole identity revolves around defending her siblings.
7 "I am ruthless, callous, and vicious when it comes to defending my family."
On the surface, Freya is your sweet young woman in the French quarter. But a little deeper beneath the surface is a fierce protector of those whom she holds dear. This trait draws the contrast between her and her other siblings. Every Mikaelson is a fierce defender of family, but Freya is the green snake under the green grass. In one scenario, she proves this when she sacrifices Davina Claire to the ancestors in order to attain the power to kill Lucien.
6 "My family is falling apart, and there is nothing I can do to stop it. I am supposed to be the big sister who’d fix everything."
Countless times, Freya Mikaelson is the big sister swooping in to save the day with a miracle spell or maneuvering loopholes; however, when faced with the threat of the hollow, Freya’s vulnerability comes to the surface. Freya's powers, which seemed infinite, are at their limit, and for the first time, Freya is confused. What makes this line gripping is Freya’s honesty with Keelin. It adds to another wholesome moment between the couple and proves Freya can have a life outside of her siblings, while at the same time having a shoulder to lie on.
5 "Thank you, Mr Buzz-Kill."
By The Originals season 5, episode 1, New Orleans has enjoyed five years of peace and prosperity after the Mikaelsons flee in order to keep the power of the hollow at bay. Fan-favorite Vincent Griffin recounts the bliss of the last five years and announces the possibility of a new danger approaching New Orleans. Freya's casual reaction with a glass of tequila in hand ends up becoming a cherished meme in The Originals fandom.
4 "You are my brother Finn. I love you."
Freya's ability to love all her siblings equally without reproach or bias makes her the best Mikaelson. In a heartwarming way, she shows her affection to Finn, who was treated unfairly after he was abandoned in a box for 900 years. No one showed Finn love until his big sister stepped into the picture. As a matter of fact, it was after Freya was introduced we see the warmth and personality of Finn, causing us to see him more than the resentful brother who despised his own immortality.
3 "I loved Niklaus."
Any lover of Klaus Mikaelson gets an automatic pass into the Original Hybrid fan club. Despite all the worst things Klaus has done, Freya’s heart is so big that while she admits to his complex and flawed character, he remains his baby brother, and she truly loved him, despite not even spending a thousand years with him. She loved him. Freya made this statement to hope after Hope was having issues with being the daughter of the great evil as referenced in Legacies. Nonetheless, Freya shows that even the worst people still deserve empathy.
2 "Leave my family alone!"
Arguably Freya Mikaleson's most iconic scene, where she puts all the rage and frustration and delivers the final blow to The Hollow. We couldn't be anymore in love with her here. This was the moment it switched for fans still on the fence about Freya Mikaelsons stan-ship since her appearance in Season 2.
1 “Always and forever. Until forever ends.”
You know you are a bonafide Mikaelson when you say the famous line, and it sounds right. In an emotional goodbye for Finn, Voelkel delivers one of her best performances as Freya Mikaelson as she bids a final farewell to Finn, whom Lucien killed. While this is a harrowing scene for Freya, she manages to re-cherish the meaning of always and forever and, furthermore, appreciate the fact they remain family despite their differences and will continue to even in life or death.
