Wow! If you're feeling lucky, you could win a prize that’s in the Top 10 list of biggest jackpots — but it all starts with a $2 Powerball ticket that could make you a multimillionaire.
After no one matched all five numbers plus the Powerball in the Monday, Sept. 25, drawing, the jackpot shot up to $835 million from $785 million less than two hours later. On the day of the drawing, Wednesday, Sept. 27, lottery ticket sales pushed the grand prize to $850 million. Wednesday numbers were 1-7-46-47-63 and the Powerball was 7. Power Play was 3x.
And we have another rollover, and another step closer to that billion-dollar mark. The jackpot for Saturday's drawing now climbs to $925 million — the fourth-highest Powerball total ever — with a cash option of $432.4 billion.
There were no grand prize winners, but Wednesday drawing had four tickets that matched 5 for $1 million. Those tickets were purchased in California, Kansas, Maryland and New York.
Monday's drawing wasn't all bad news, by the way: Three tickets purchased at Publix, 3343 S. Orange Blossom Trail, Kissimmee; Walmart Fuel Station, 2845 N. Old Lake Wilson Road, Kissimmee; and Circle K, 31734 E. SR 44, Eustis, produced $1 million winners.
That's the second time in less than a week that a ticket purchased from Publix won somebody $1 million. In the Saturday, Sept. 23, drawing, a single ticket from Publix, 4606 Kirkman Road, Orlando, won a second-tier prize of $1 million.
The new grand prize total remained No. 4 on the Top 10 list of biggest Powerball jackpots ever in the history of the game (see below). In addition, the $850 million total remained in the ninth spot in Top 10 largest Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots of all time.
In case you're wondering, Monday, Sept. 25, numbers were 10-12-22-36-50 and the Powerball was 4. Power Play was 2x.
These rollovers follow a recent summer lotto frenzy after someone in California won the Powerball jackpot for $1.08 billion and someone in Neptune Beach, Florida, won the largest Mega Millions jackpot in the history of the game at $1.58 billion. In less than two months, this lottery grand prize has increased from $20 million to the current pot.
On July 19, a single ticket in California matched all five numbers plus the Powerball to win $1.08 billion, the largest jackpot since therecord-setting $2.04 billion in November.On Aug. 8, a single ticket purchased at a Publix in Neptune Beach, Florida, matched all five numbers plus the Powerball to win $1.58 billion. Finally, on Sept. 27, the $1.58 billion lottery jackpot has been claimed, but its winner remains a mystery, for now (see below).
